Our Jury
Every year we invite a different group of heritage professionals to scrutinize all of our nominations and select our award recipients. The jury is completely independent of ACO and makes its own award decisions.

Dr. Faisal Arain
Dr. Faisal Arain is an experienced academic leader and architect with an MS and PhD in Construction Project Management. Dr. Arain completed a Leadership Development Program from Harvard University, Boston. He has consulted, researched and published widely in the discipline of Architecture, Project Management and Design and Construction Management. He has authored over 120 research publications and 12 books. He serves on editorial boards of several international research journals. Dr. Arain is currently the President of Willowbank School of Restoration Arts, Ontario.

Alison Creba
Founder and principal investigator at Local Technique, Alison works at the intersection of architectural conservation and waste, tracing possible futures and entangled pasts of sites, structures and materials. Her research explores themes of demolition, deconstruction and displacement and investigates the physical and cultural landscapes generated through these processes. Since 2016, Alison has collaborated on research on this topic, contributing to publications, providing guest lectures and leading working groups.

Jack Hollinger
Jack Hollinger coordinates and teaches in the heritage trades programs at Algonquin College Perth Campus – a diploma program in Heritage Carpentry and Joinery and Bachelor of Applied Science in Building Conservation. He worked as a carpenter/joiner for years before teaching and currently offers heritage consulting services. He has an undergraduate degree from Queen’s University in Kingston, a diploma in Heritage Carpentry and Millwork from Algonquin College and an MA in Heritage Conservation (Canadian Studies) from Carleton University.

Sara Shemirani
Sara is an Architectural Designer at Giaimo, an architecture firm based in Toronto, integrating design and conservation. Passionate about heritage, Sara also serves as the ACO NextGen Vice Chair, and is on the Toronto Metropolitan University’s DAS Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Committee as an alum. She has also volunteered on the National Trust for Canada Conference Program Advisory.

Jill Taylor
Jill is a founding partner of Taylor Hazell Architects, specializing in heritage building conservation, adaptive reuse and additions to heritage sites. For over 30 years, Jill has served as a leader in conservation in many advocacy roles including as President and Vice President of CAHP, a Chair of the Conservation Review Board of Ontario, a task force advisor on the OBC, the Ontario Heritage Act and PPS.
