London Doorways: An Expanded Study of Triple-Arched Doorways, published in 2023, had its origins in the 1980s when Julia Beck became intrigued by London’s triple-arched doorways and found Herb Craig’s preliminary work on them in the Western Archives.  Julia continued Herb’s work until her death in 2012, after which a group came together and edited and updated her nearly completed study into London Doorways: A Study of Triple-Arched Doorways (2014).  The booklet proved so popular that the group expanded it to include newly discovered doorways and to produce the book being honoured today – an in-depth survey that contains a history of the triple-arched doorway, descriptions and photographs of almost every existing example of the architectural feature, and a section on “near misses.”  London Doorways: An Expanded Study of Triple-Arched Doorways is the result of extensive and original research that sheds bright and revealing light on a fascinating part of London’s built history.
