Red Iron Design

As the final part of a larger restoration project, the owners of this 1883 residence have recently replicated the highly visible wrought iron cresting on the top floor of their Italianate house.  They researched the original cresting, found old photographs, and engaged a company to make it who luckily had an old catalogue that included a design of the original Victorian cresting on this house.  Prior to restoring this crowning feature, the owners had restored the porch and front steps and replaced some of the windows, as well as retaining and enhancing interior details.  This fine structure, formerly a dwelling, is an impressive example of the Italianate style with its balanced verticality and the symmetry of tall, paired windows and roof cornice brackets.  It lives on to enhance the streetscape and continues its usefulness as modern-day offices and shops
